Nissan strives for a safer world, and it’s designed a range of advanced technology to make driving safer than ever. This system, known as Nissan Safety Shield 360, is installed in all Nissan vehicles. We’ll look at some of these Nissan safety features and see how they protect you and your passengers.
Advanced Technology for Driving Safety
Lane Departure Warning
This system uses a camera that scans the road for the lane line markings. Once markings are detected, the system keeps you inside the lines. If your wheels move toward the edges of the lane, and you’re not actively steering, you’ll hear an audio alert to warn you so you can turn back into your lane.
High Beam Assist
High beams make night driving much safer as they enable you to see the road ahead. Unfortunately, their angle directly ahead can blind drivers in front of you or heading in your direction. This feature uses sensors located in the front to detect tail lights or oncoming headlights, then automatically switches to low beams. Once no lights are detected, your headlights revert to high beams.
Blind Spot Warning
Blind spots have always been dangerous, as a vehicle can enter one, and you may not see it until it’s too late to prevent an accident. This system uses sensors that continually watch the rear and sides of your Nissan. If a sensor detects a vehicle, your front and rear turn indicators on the relevant side flash, and an icon of a car in a triangle appears on that side mirror.
Automatic Emergency Braking w/Pedestrian Detection
This system uses radar and a front-facing camera to monitor the road ahead for vehicles, pedestrians, or animals. If something is detected, it calculates the object’s speed, compares it to your vehicle’s speed, and determines if a collision risk exists. It provides visual and audio warnings that increase in intensity if you’re closing too fast on the object so you can hit the brakes and prevent an accident.
The emergency braking function automatically activates if you don’t brake in time. It will bring your Nissan to an almost instant stop to prevent an accident or reduce damage if the accident can’t be prevented.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
When you shift into reverse, sensors directly behind you watch the areas to the left and right for approaching vehicles. If a vehicle is detected, a chime sounds and an icon appears on your screen to show the approaching vehicle’s location. This gives you enough time to brake and avoid a collision.
Rear Automatic Braking
This feature also uses sensors that can detect stationary objects behind you. It provides visual and audio warnings and automatically applies the brakes if needed.
